CLARE CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
From Warrnambool to Adelaide I drove, then through the hills to Clare,
Up into the Barossa Valley, I wonder if you've been there?
Here they say gidday, and smile how are you,
they’re community minded folk these Clarians, all the hot day through,
Scaggs smiles and tends his bar ,proprietor of the Clare Hotel
I met him aways back at the Gympie Muster, but that’s another story to tell.
And here the streets, widely steeped in history, all bare memories as well.
Now, the local constabulary are true and just in all their law
'Trigger' and 'Hilly' keepers of the peace, none like I’ve met before
And., here in Clare they celebrate just like you and me,
where a kindly respect follows the lead, of peacekeepers who keep an honest store.
the pageant proceeds down the street, in the evening, while the suns still burning low,
with the locals, and their children ,giving smiles everywhere they go
dressed in Christmas glory,
They’re riding, walking, singing talking, their openness quite unique,
as they portray the pageants theme
Yep ..here in Clare I’ve got to admit the townsfolk really beam
Then, they gather at the local oval , the local cricket club tending bar,
Sams the local builder their sponsor, and yet, a greater man by far
For in the hard times, Sams a family man first, and as the days improve,
He creates a family atmosphere of which none would disapprove.
the local youth supply the rhythm on the oval from their stage,
a teenager on lead guitar, with drummer and bass guitarist
And, loud is all the rage.
yes from Warrnambool through Adelaide and out the hills to Clare
Now, I’ve been, and , I know one day I’ll be back, breathing in their air
So.. If can inspire you to take the journey, wander without care …enjoy the day…smile heaps.
and go say hello, to the beautiful country folk
in the pristine town of Clare
